The Importance of Cleaning BBQ Grills
Different professionals approach the cleaning process differently. Any professional cleaner aims to leave it spotless ready for the next grilling experience.
Despite the professionals having varied approaches to the cleaning process, the items they use in the cleaning process are almost similar.
Let’s look at some of them:
Items Necessary When Cleaning BBQ Grills
Mostly, you will spot the professional cleaners with:
Industrial strength degreaser
- White vinegar or other stainless steel cleaners
- Soft cloth, in most cases microfiber
- Hot soapy water or hot steam dispenser
- Scrapers
- Gloves to protect the hands from scalding from the hot water
Once the professionals have gathered all the relevant items, the next step is to begin the cleaning process.
Professionals BBQ grills cleaners follow this procedure:
1. Heat the BBQ grill
The cleaner will warm the grill for 20 minutes to eliminate the grease and grime stuck on the grates.
After 20 minutes, the grates are flipped on the other side for the same reason. The time spent on this step may vary depending on the amount of grease on the grates. The one sure way of knowing when all the grease has been burnt is when there is no more smoke coming from the grates.
This is a critical stage as all the bacteria, leftover foods, and grease are eliminated at this point.
2. Scraping
Ensure the gas is turned off from the first stage to avoid fire accidents. Then, as the grates are still warm, scrape off the remaining solid particles.
Scraping the grill while still warm makes your scrubbing work easier as you don’t have to use much effort to get rid of the junk.
To scrape, you could use a wire brush or a scraper meant for cleaning metallic substances.
When using the brush, be keen on loose bristles from the wire brush. When consumed with BBQ, they can easily stick on your esophagus, causing you unimaginable pain and, in extreme cases calls for surgery.
3. Disassemble
At this point, the cleaner will allow the grill to cool off completely, after which disassembling will begin. The essence of dismembering the grill is removing all the removable parts and getting them ready for further cleaning.
In a large basin, soak all the removable parts in hot soapy water and allow them to soak for an hour or more.
While this is happening, the cleaner will use this time to reach all corners of the grill, cleaning them with a wire brush.
Alternatively, at this point, the cleaner may blow the grill with hot steam to disinfect and get rid of the stubborn stains that are not visible from the outside.
A good professional grill cleaner will look out for any repairs required on any part of the grill. The inspection includes checking out for clogged burners. Defective burner tubes are responsible for a small flame size. This makes it necessary to have a routine check on the burners during cleaning.
In the absence of any repairs requirement, all the disassembled parts will be cleaned thoroughly with a cloth until sparkling clean.
4. Rinse
Reduce the foam from the warm soapy water in the previous step. Rinse several times until the water is clear.
Before you drain the water, check that you have all the parts.
5. Wipe
At this point, all the parts are shiny and spotless. The cleaner will then wipe off the water from all the parts. Finally, using a soft cloth, the cleaner wipes the grill outward to give it the appealing new-like stainless steel look.
To make it shiny and more appealing, the cleaner may add white vinegar to the cloth.
6. Reassemble
This stage involves getting the grill back to its original state. Here, the cleaner ensures all parts are in order, including the burner tubes, grates, and every other piece.
Preheat the grill for around 10 minutes to remove any remaining foreign contaminants.
The grill is now ready for use, and you can enjoy the cleaner, healthier BBQ as planned with minimal concerns on the potential dangers of a dirty BBQ grill.
Professional cleaners will tidy up the place once the cleaning exercise is done. The cleaner then removes all the dirt spread out on the floor from the grill and drains any dirty water.
To improve the performance of your grill and add more years to it, ensure you let professionals thoroughly clean your BBQ grill a few times per year.
